Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing a brand’s visibility inside AI-powered search and answer engines. Unlike traditional SEO, which targets ranked search results on Google, GEO targets the conversational recommendations that Large Language Models (LLMs) surface when users ask questions like “what is the best tool for X?” or “which brand should I use for Y?”.
When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, or Gemini a recommendation question, the AI generates a conversational response that names two or three specific brands. GEO determines whether your brand is one of them. This is a fundamentally different discovery channel from Google’s blue links — and according to industry data, 83% of AI citations come from pages outside the SEO top 10, meaning your traditional search rankings tell you very little about your AI visibility.
GEOlytic measures this visibility with the AI Visibility Score (AIVS) — a 0–100 metric combining position, recommendation strength, evidence quality, and prominence across all four major engines. AIVS is calculated per engine because each engine uses different ranking logic: Perplexity prioritizes fresh content, ChatGPT favors Wikipedia and listicles, Claude rewards primary sources, Gemini weights Google Business Profile signals.

FAQ
Everything you need to know about GEO and GEOlytic.
GEO is the practice of optimizing your brand's visibility in AI-powered search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. Unlike traditional SEO which targets Google rankings, GEO focuses on getting AI engines to mention, recommend, and accurately represent your brand in their responses.
AIVS (AI Visibility Score) is a 0-100 metric that measures how visible your brand is across AI engines. It combines four factors: mention position (35%), recommendation strength (30%), evidence quality (20%), and brand prominence (15%). Each AI engine gets its own AIVS score so you can see where you're strong and where to improve.
GEOlytic tracks four major AI engines: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Perplexity, Claude (Anthropic), and Gemini (Google). Each engine has different ranking factors — for example, Perplexity weights content freshness 3.2x more, while ChatGPT favors "best of" list-style content. For each engine, you get AIVS scores with confidence ranges, stability badges, competitive intelligence showing how competitors are mentioned alongside you, and Share of Voice charts.
SEO optimizes for Google search rankings using keywords and backlinks. GEO optimizes for AI engine recommendations using structured data, content freshness, citation signals, and entity clarity. 83% of AI citations come from pages outside the traditional top 10 search results, so strong SEO alone doesn't guarantee AI visibility.
We recommend weekly checks at minimum. AI engine responses change frequently — studies show 40-60% monthly citation volatility across engines. GEOlytic supports daily and weekly scheduled monitoring so you can track trends and catch visibility changes early.
A GEO audit analyzes your website across 7 categories — AI crawler access, structured data, content structure, content authority, content freshness, technical foundation, and citation readiness — with 30+ checks. Each finding includes what's wrong, why it matters for AI visibility, and step-by-step instructions to fix it.
Yes. Every new account gets a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. The trial includes 1 brand, all 4 AI engines, 1,000 probe credits, content generation, and GEO website audits. Your data is preserved after the trial — you can upgrade anytime to continue.
Credits are consumed when GEOlytic queries AI engines on your behalf. Each probe (one prompt sent to one engine) costs 1 credit. A typical AIVS run with 20 prompts across 4 engines uses 80 credits. Content generation costs 10 credits and GEO audits cost 25 credits. Credits reset each billing cycle.
AI engines don't give the same answer every time — industry research shows 40-60% monthly variation in AI citations. Your AIVS score is a point-in-time snapshot, not a fixed number. This is why we recommend weekly scheduled runs: the trend over time is more meaningful than any single score. GEOlytic shows confidence indicators and trend direction to help you focus on what matters.
Run an AIVS check before making changes, then run again after. GEOlytic tracks your score history so you can see the trend: "AIVS went from 58 to 72 over 3 weeks." The Content Performance Tracking feature links generated content to source runs with baseline and followup AIVS comparison, so you can see exactly which content moved the needle. Action plan checkboxes track your optimization progress, and scheduled weekly runs make monitoring automatic.
